Chamomile for
Menstrual Problems and PMS
Chamomile a great herb to help with anxiety, restlessness, cramping and even digestive problems experienced before and during the menstrual cycle. Some woman also report it to be helpful for cyclical mastalgia, or painful breast associated with the menstrual cycle. It is also reported to help with PMS.
Menstrual Cramps
During menstruation the body releases a hormone called prostaglandins, which causes the uterus to contract in order to help the uterus shed its lining. Researchers believe that this hormone is one of the main causes of menstrual cramps.
Dysmenorrhoea - Painful Periods
This is a relatively common problem and the symptoms can vary. It is caused by cramp of the uterine muscles.
Menorrhagia - Heavy Bleeding
Abnormal heavy bleeding, but is particularly common around the time of menopause.
PMS
PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) is a term used to describe a wide range of symptoms which effect women in the second half of the menstual cycle. Symptoms can include anxiety, irritability and mood swings, bloating, breast tenderness, fatigue, headaches, skin problems and weight gain. Aromatherapy is highly effective and has helped many sufferers.
Chamomile is an excellent essential oil due to its properties and can ease anger, irritability and help balance mood swings.
How to use Chamomile Essential Oil
You may experiment with different formulas to find the right combination for you, but here are a few to help.
Baths:
For Painful Periods:
2 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil
2 drops of Clary Sage
2 drops of Moram Essential Oil
For PMS (anger/irritability):
2 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil
2 drops of Geranium
2 drops of Ylang Ylang
For PMS (depression):
2 drops of Bergamot
3 drops of Clary Sage
1 drops of Rose
For PMS (fatigue):
2 drops of Carrot Seed
2 drops of Grapefruit
2 drops of Lemon
Compresses:
For Painful Periods:
Recipe 1
Chamomile
Majoram
Recipe 2
Clary Sage
Rose
Recipe 3
Lavender
Peppermint
Massage Oil:
Specially effective then massaged on the abdomen and lower back area.
For Painful Periods:
20ml Carrier Oil
2 drops Clary Sage
2 drops Cypress
2 drops Marjoram
1 drop Rose
For Heavy Bleeding:
20ml Carrier Oil
2 drops Chamomole
2 drops Frankincense
2 drops Geranium
1 drop Yarrow
For PMS Mood Swing:
20ml Carrier Oil
3 drops Chamomole
1 drop Palma Rose
Make a Chamomile Tea:
Add 2 teaspoons of dried Chamomile flowers to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for at least 5 minutes. If you are using a package of Chamomile tea bags, then follow the directions as stated on the box. Honey or sugar can be added for taste.
